Of seemingly limitless space, the South Australian outback has witnessed some amazing adventures of discovery. Some of Australia's greatest explorers have toiled across this tortuous terrain of craggy ironstone ranges and dry salt lakes on exploits that have become poetry to the nation's soul.
This great southern state spreads beneath a burning blue sky, punctuated infrequently by isolated homesteads and flanked by creaking windmills. The Flinders Ranges are South Australia's largest mountain range and home to a fascinating variety of unique plants and animals. At its heart is Wilpena Pound, an immense natural amphitheatre and timeless landscape. Offshore lays Kangaroo Island, a sanctuary for Sea Lions and Fur Seals who inhabit some of Australia's most pristine beaches. The Great Australian Bight, a mighty bending of the southern coastline, is the domain of the great white shark and southern right whale. And then there's the Eyre Peninsula a triangular region home to the 'Seafood Capital of Australia', Port Lincoln, sitting on its southern tip.
